Do so at your own risk
The devices we carry around on a daily basis often have features that transcend their primary functions. One such helpful iOS feature can turn your iPhone or iPad into a life-saving device.
But, as empowering as this feature is, there may be a time where you want to turn it off. If that time is now, here’s how it’s done.
What Is Emergency SOS on iPhone/iPad?
Emergency SOS on iPhone and iPad is a safety feature designed for quick emergency response. With just a few button presses, you can quickly dial an emergency service (like 911 in the US) while also sharing your location information with them. If you’ve added emergency contacts, they’ll also be alerted after your emergency call has ended.
How to Turn Off Emergency SOS
You can turn off Emergency SOS on your iPhone and iPad via the Settings app.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app and then tap Emergency SOS.
- Tap the slider next to each option to switch them to the off position. The setting is disabled if the slider is gray.
That’s all there is to it. If you ever need to re-enable these features, head back to this screen and tap the slider to the on position.
SOS or Silence, It’s Your Call
The Emergency SOS feature on iOS is an important safety tool that’s useful for connecting you to emergency services and your loved ones in critical situations. Always remember to weigh the benefits and implications of turning off such features.
