Did someone just tell you they shared an album with you over iCloud? You won’t be able to open the album on your iPhone until you subscribe to it. This tutorial will show you how to accept invites to shared albums on iOS.
Accept Invite to Shared Album on iPhone
You can accept a shared album invitation on your iPhone through the notification you receive when someone sends you images. If you missed it, you can check the Shared Album Activity section in the Photos app and subscribe to the album.
Accept Shared Album Invite via Notification
- Tap the Shared Albums notification when it pops up on your screen.
- The Photos app should launch, and you should see more details about the shared album.
- Tap Accept to subscribe.
Accept Shared Album Invite via Photos App
- Open the Photos app via the Home Screen or App Library.
- Tap For You on the bottom navigation bar.
- Under Shared Album Activity, tap Accept on the shared album you want to subscribe to.
You can access the shared album a few seconds after accepting the invite. Go to Albums > Shared Albums in the Photos app to access a full list of shared albums.
Not Receiving Shared Album Invites on iPhone? Try This Fix
Your iPhone’s shared albums are deactivated if you’re not receiving invites when someone sends you images. In that case, you must enable shared albums to fix the problem. Here’s how:
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll down and tap Photos.
- Turn on the switch next to Shared Albums.
Once you’ve done that, ask the person to send you another invitation to subscribe to the album—you shouldn’t have trouble receiving it this time. If the problem continues, learn more ways to fix shared albums not showing up issues on the iPhone.
Working With Shared Albums on iPhone
After accepting a shared album, you can view the images inside it, hit the Thumbs Up icon to like photos, and even add comments. The album owner and others subscribing to the album can see your activity and vice versa. To save an image from the shared album to your photos library, tap Share > Save Image.
Shared albums you subscribe to don’t count toward your iCloud storage, but you might occasionally want to tidy up the Photos app. To remove an album you no longer wish to be a part of, just long-press it under Photos > Albums > Shared Albums and select Unsubscribe.
