So you can get into the groove
Rhythm games can be some of the most engaging iOS games out there while also providing fun music to play along with. Many of these games are also visually interesting and unique. Play them on your iPhone or iPad when you need something to do.
Music video games have a long history. They date back to the 1996 game PaRappa, the famous 1998 arcade game Dance Dance Revolution, and to the seminal 2005 release of Guitar Hero. The rhythm game is popular and has made its way into mobile gaming.
In this article, we’ve listed some of the best iOS rhythm games you can download and play now, all of them with free gameplay features and some with premium upgrades.
Beatstar
One of the most important aspects of a rhythm game is its responsiveness to player input. Beatstar is impressive in this regard, with its smooth visuals and varied choice of music compared to other rhythm games.
Its user interface is sleek and easy to navigate, and there aren’t too many ads throughout the game. It’s free to play, and you can access many great songs, unlocking them as you play.
You can also pay to add more songs instantly, at $4.99 for 2 songs, $9.99 for 4, and $19.99 for 8. This can also net you some in-game gems to get even more songs. But, overall, the best part of this game is the reactivity and variety of songs.
Magic Tiles 3
Magic Tiles is a good rhythm game with pretty standard gameplay and a good mix of songs that can be unlocked by watching ads. The feature that makes this app stand out among other rhythm games is its Battle game mode. This allows you to play against other users to see who can go the longest without a mistake. You can play this multiplayer mode with up to four players who can be strangers or friends.
Magic Tiles 3 is free to download and play, but a subscription for .99 a week allows you to unlock all VIP songs and download songs to play the game offline. It’ll also remove the ads throughout the game.
Tiles Hop
Tiles Hop is a fun concept for a rhythm game. You play by moving a sphere across the screen and placing it in the correct area so it’ll bounce off the upcoming tiles to the beat of the music. The game also has some nice visuals, which change with each song. To get new songs to play with, you can watch an ad to unlock them. The songs span multiple music genres like pop, EDM, classical, rock, and more.
There’s also an option for VIP access, which costs $19.99 a month, $7.99 weekly, or $39.99 yearly. This gets you over a thousand songs, as well as the removal of ads.
Looper
Looper has a unique concept compared to the others on the list. You tap on the screen on each 2D object to start the movement of a glowing ball around the outline. This also starts a different song beat. The objective is to make sure each piece is moving in harmony and playing a beat without having them intersect. This seems simple at first, but each level increases the complexity.
The game is free to play, but you can opt to pay for a VIP mode for $5.49 a week, which removes ads, unlocks all levels and 20 special levels, and gives you access to exclusive music.
Dream Piano
Dream Piano allows you to play along with piano versions of a wide variety of songs, both classical and newer pop songs. In this game, you can tap as fast and in any order you want as notes come on screen, you just have to ensure they don’t hit the bottom.
The game is excellent even in the free version, but you can also upgrade to a VIP membership to remove ads and unlock all songs. This costs $2.99 a week, $9.99 a month, or $29.99 a year.
